International Women’s Day is celebrated around the world to applaud the contributions women have made to society and to recognize their achievements in our history. With so much to celebrate, America’s Car-Mart is proud to honor the accomplishments of women throughout history this Women’s History Month.
Closer to home at Car-Mart, we’re thrilled to recognize our own Dee Munroe, Senior Office Manager, at Car-Mart of Prattville, Ala. A native of England, she emigrated to the United States in 2009, and she joined our Car-Mart family in January 2019.
Fast forward to today, Dee loves her job and paying it forward to others. “I like the challenge of my job,” says Dee, who has taught others the role of office manager at Car-Mart. “I like to pass my knowledge to others. It’s rewarding to share what I know and see them put that into action and then get excited about their job.”
On International Women’s Day, Dee and her family will enjoy a meal together and reflect on the strength of women. Here’s more from Dee:
What does International Women’s Day mean to you? Why is it important?
It’s important to let everyone know the achievements of women. For me, it’s showing my daughter, my daughters-in-law, and my granddaughters that women can be and do anything. Because they’re women, they can do anything they want. They’re not at a disadvantage because they’re female.
How does being a female contribute to the person you are today?
It doesn’t matter what happens in my life – good or bad. I’m always going to be a woman and a mother. My greatest achievements are my children.
I’m so proud of them. When I look at them, I feel like I’ve contributed to things in this world. They can achieve anything they want to achieve in their lives.
NOTE: Dee is a proud mom to three grown children. Her two sons and six grandchildren live in the U.S., while her daughter lives in England.
What career advice do you have for other women?
Respect and understand others. Also, know your job inside out. Know exactly what you’re doing, and you’ll go far. Do something you love. Reach for the stars.
And when it comes to interacting with men, put yourself at the same level as them. Don’t use your sexuality to get your way. Use your knowledge, your head and your heart to get to the place you need to be.
I’m teaching my granddaughters that they can do anything, even if it’s a boy job. They can do whatever they want. Follow their dream.
Who is an inspirational female who inspires you and why?
Princess Diana. She went through so much in her life. She was so broken, but she rebuilt herself stronger. She also didn’t let the people who broke her stop her. She loved her kids, and she loved her country. There is nothing stronger than a broken woman who has rebuilt herself. Diana changed the world. I think a lot of people can relate to this.
What’s your International Women’s Day message?
“The meaning of life is to find your gift and the purpose in life is to give it away.” I have this Pablo Picasso saying on my wall, which serves as a daily inspiration.
And since I’ve always been the sort of person to teach others everything I know, find what you’re good at and pass it on.
Thanks, Dee, for sharing your words of wisdom!
All of us at America’s Car-Mart appreciate Dee and all our female associates for their contributions to our company. And we applaud all women for their contributions to American history.
During March, Women’s History Month, we encourage everyone to reflect on a strong female leader you know who has made a difference in the lives of others.
